Howdy Case Friends:
As long as I posting about the mag, I might as well ask about the gas tank as well. The tank on my DO is rusty. Tractor runs well, but after about an hour or maybe an hour and a half, the trash bowl starts to fill with rust. Have to shut the tractor off, clean the bowl, etc. It seems to me years ago, a person could buy a coating for gas tanks. I've looked at several auto parts stores but found nothing. The kids behind the counters have no idea what I'm talking about. Does anyone know if this stuff is still on the market? If so, where could I get it? Thanks again - Glenn

The last time I coated a gas tank I got the tank sealer from a small plane parts supplier at one of the larger small plane landing strips. It was certified safe for coating the gas tanks on planes so I figured it was safe on the tank I had and when I got rid of it, it was still sealed after 6 years just as good as when I had originally put it in the tank.
The only problem is that I don't remember the brand but you could check with one of the small plane parts houses in your area. If what they sell is good for airplanes then I think that's a good sign that it should be great for our earth bound tractors.

I had the same problem with my SC man was it just about to drive me nuts. I clean the tank out with water let dry good then I used redkote, that was 5 years and no problems. I tried the stuff they sell at the motorcycle shop on my sons tractor and it cobwebed the in side so bad I had to get another tank

I used some stuff called redkote, you rinse your tank good, get all the rust and fumes you can and when it's dry add the redkote and shake it around and drain the excess. On a nice summer day allow 24-48 hrs to dry. I bought mine at a Carquest auto parts store. Made by Damon Industries, Alliace NE, 1-800-362-9850

Used Eastwoods kit 4 years ago on my '73 Vette. worked great. Had no problems since. Their kit includes a complete service from cleaning on.

Try the Eastwood company for MANY restoration products, I think POR 15 also makes a gas tank sealer but I am not sure.

Good luck. Fireman in KY

Hello,

There is a product called kream, you can get it through a motorcycle shop or any atv place. I have used it on a couple of occations.

Try this first, while you are lookin for parts for your mag, take the tank off and through a piece of small chain in it, slosch that around with a soapy water mixture and that should clean the inside of your tank. If there are no holes in the tank I would suggest NOT using a coating, they have been known to break down after while.

Good luck

Dave

Auto or truck restoration parts places have that. Fellas on my Lists have used it, and some loved it, others hated it. This is usually an acid cleaner to remove loose stuff, then a white coating to seal it up tight. Some say if you don't get it fully covered, it peels off and clogs up again, real messy! Some motorcylcle places or mags have it listed for smaller tanks. Even J. C. Whitney has this stuff. Eastwood has it, but higher priced. You need to remove tank to be able to roll it around and such to cover it all. I have used "Iron Out", used for taking iron stains from clothes, and was pretty good, some say Muriatic Acid works, be careful with that, and others use cleaners and bolts or a chain to roll around inside and knock off the rust or bigger stuff physically. Then rinse and rinse with water sevral times. Check any truck or car magazine for ads for the acid and coating.

Hello Glenn, check with your local radiator repair shop, they may be able to direct you to a place that sells it,then again they may have a little leftover they'd give You.I know back when I pulled wrenches for Galloways radiator and truck repair we fixed and coated fuel tanks, this may not help but then again it just might prove to be the ticket. J.C. Whitney lists fuel tank liner kits for around $32. Never tried one so can't comment whether they work or not. www.jcw.com gas tank coatings
