Duals on a DC

I have been running band duals on my DC for the past 4 years. I use them when pulling my 14 ft. grain drill on 100 acres each year, because they cut the compaction in half, I also use them when disking. Last year I ran one on the left side while plowing because it was a little slick.Duals sure do make it a different tractor! I have never had any troubles with this, but tonight my neighbor was over and he said that I should be running axle mount duals instead of band duals. Aparently he said band duals put too much stress on the axle? What do you guys think, can a DC axle handle these duals? I have never had any troubles yet so I don't know why I should switch now.

Thanks-WO

Never seen duals on a DC or other old colors when I was back home farming in my younger days. but did see a SC at the Hastings show two years ago with factory duals. Farmer ordered it new to pull grain drill and planter in heavy wetter soil. Had the fenders in closer so the hubs were axle mounted. Nice lookinjg tractor.

you can use dual case hubs on reg axels In the early 70s in Ind I farmed with a dc with 2 hub duals for years Had shaved head and 4 and one sixteenth flat tops would pull 4 bottoms or 13 foot disc and drag Bought it that way for $125.00 It was rough but I got the first farm paid for with it.

Speaking of propane DC's, how many of them are out there? I have seen one in the trees in Oklahoma every year for the past five years and I haven't stopped to ask about it because I absolutely don't know what they are worth. Here in Iowa, propane tractors of any color are not very common so I am out of my league here.

We have four propane DC tractors but have only seen one or two others in magazines.
There aren't a lot of propane tractors here in southern Illinois either, this is why I wanted one, only one at the shows every time.
There value depends on the buyer, I like them a little more than the common gas tractors so I paid a little more. If it needs Ensing parts for the regulator or carb it is a little hard to find them in working order.

Don't worry about the axel on your Case. When the green and red boys tell you this, they are talking about the small axels on their iron. Cases of this vintage had bigger axels than the other guys.

We used to run band duals on Grandpa's IH 656 so we could pull a wider disk. More than once we broke the hub bolts where the hub keys onto the axle. Lot of traction if you start to lug and pop go the bolts. The tractor did perform better - probably increased pulling ability 30%.

I can't answer your question- but this is a picture of a NICE DC with axle mount duals!

Mike, Thanks for the complement on my wide DC.

Wide Open, I have not pulled much more than a hayride or parade float with it. The duals did come in handy on the hayride but I don't know what it will pull. I put Case 4" pistons in it with a 5505A gas head on it. Saved the propane head for my pulling CC. I was only able to put axle mount duals on it since it had the extra wide 96" rear axles. I don't think they will fit on regular axles. Good to hear an old DC is still in regular use!

Mark,my neighbors like to tease me because I sit out on that old DC eating dust all spring while they are in there air-conditioned cabs. I have many good tractors with air conditioning and good cabs, and I probably should use my 2090 Case or something else, but I like to sit out in the open, and the DC is fun to drive, besides I think that it still needs to get its regular exercise. As for disking and plowing, I only do 4 acres a year, just to play around and let it flex its muscles a little!

I wonder if anyone has ever tried putting axel mount duels on a regular axel. I have an extra set of wheels and tires for my big 400 and it looks like there is enough room to slide another wheel on the axel. It appears the axel would inset about 2 to 3 inches into the outer hub but there seems to be plenty of axel to hold it on. I have thought of trying it but have not yet. Anyone think it would work.

Schotte- I must admit that that is one sweet DC. Boy, I could only wish I had that tractor. I bet it could pull like mad.
