Howdy Case Friends: I have a 1948 Case "D.O". It was my fathers tractor and he just gave it to me. Problem, I was running it the other day and it just quit dead. After checking several things, narrowed it down to the mag. Took the mag off the tractor and took the top off the mag and the little wheel inside,(I'm assuming it's the rotor), broke and flew apart inside the cap. Where would I get one of these wheels? Other than that, the mag is in good shape. No damage from this rotor flying apart. I looked and looked for a model number or some kind of number to identify it but found nothing. It's silver with a case emblem on the top with a black distributor cap. Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

From OLD ABE - John Saeli has an ad for mags as does Weavers Magneto Repair in Shiloh, OH 419-896-2827 888-624-7732.

Glenn,

A '48 DO might either have a Case 4JMA or a Case Type 41 magneto. They should both take the same rotor (part # 101 JMA)

The bad news is, no CASE mag parts are currently available. You are going to have hunt around for N.O.S. stuff, or you can contact a couple of different guys who rebuild mags to see if they've got anything.

I wish there were better news- I've got about six mags that are dead in the water without parts.

Thanks everyone for the replys - and thanks Mike for the photo - that one in the picture looks like the one I have. Everyone keep your fingers crossed, this old DO is a good running tractor - would hate to see it rot away due to a bad mag.

And you guys think I "bastardized" my SC, by NOT having a mag!!!! I did'nt change it, but glad it's a dizzy on it now. I see Mag rebuilders at Portland, IN show each year, some others, must be parts out there for them to rubuild with or at least good used ones. Don't know how to find them, I never pay much attention to them myself! Check antique tractor magazines for ads?

See what I mean! Dadburn mags fly apart, draw ants (especially in Texas), and have all sorts of troubles. Just Kiddin' Glenn - John S or Mike S really know the mags inside and out. I think John sells rebuilt ones - put out a holler for him and he should respond.:^)
