Hi, I bought a 48 VAC at a auction and all of the wires were badly screwed up. It looked like some one just ripped them out. anyway I need to know about the generator, you have a 6volt cut out on a autolight generator. The one post comes from the field coils and one from the cut out, now where do these go on the amp meter because it was gone. or just where do these go? also don't you need a jumper from the push button starting switch on the dash to one side of the amp meter and if so which side. I paid $150 dollars for this VAC and the only thing it needs is the wireing and sometime some new front tires because they are pretty weather checked and cracked, It has a fairly good and recent paint job so I want to put it to work pulling a small hay rake on a 20 acre alfalfa field that is by the house. Would be greatful for any info.

Thanks,

Larry

Error in last message ....go to "Article Archives", not Forum to find 3rd brush generator info. The starter switch has one large wire going to the neg. battery terminal, the the other large wire to the starter, that's it, no more.

Having a '49 VAC, I myself went through the same problems that you're going through. There is a set of rough drawn wiring schematics listed in Yesterday's tractor's forum? (If I remember correctly) that shows a "third brush generator" usage. The "stud" on the generator goes to the light switch. If the switch isn't used, then take this directly to ground. The other wire goes to the "cut-out" relay, then out the other side of the relay to the battery (relay HAS to have a good case ground itself). This will work fine, I'm currently using this until I can locate a new light sw. The third movable brush controls the charge rate. Rotate it in the direction of generator rotation to INCREASE the charge rate. To decrease, go the other way. If you do your work during the day and don't use lights, it takes very little charge to supply the coil. Good, clean grounds and connections are a MUST, check them all like I DIDN'T! E-Mail me for any more info.

I can't answer you because mine has an alternator but I do suggest looking in the YT achives for info. Many different tractors are wired basicly the same. Sounds like a very good bargain on that VAC.
