Looking for a wide front to put on a Case 430 diesel. Are the wide fronts from a gas and a diesel interchangable? Is it a big job to convert from a narrow front to a wide front? Thanks, Kevin

Kevin, I switched my 1956 Case 401 from a row crop to an adjustable wide front. The wide front came from a gasoline Case 400 from the same year. Any of the 400 series should bolt up, but there are only four bolts on your narrow and there will be many more on the wide front due to how it bolts to the frame. The switch isn't that difficult, but safety with a major concern. I block the tractor up and used a cherry picker too just so I had more than one support for the machine, it's mighty heavy and it if falls you won't get away from it. It was the first time I swapped anything like that and didn't want to take chances. Case Had four front ends for the 400 series according to my owners manual. A single front wheel, a dual wheel Row Crop, a standard wide front, and an adjustable wide front. I don't know where you could find one. I got lucky and asked on this forum and a fellow in Wisconsin had one. I paid $300 for mine. I have heard of 2 to 3 times that much for other tractors, so it's just the luck of the draw. Good Luck to you. Chris.
