How about some detail shots of that VAC engine so I can see the wire routing, coil location, decals, etc?

Thanks!

FF:

I haven't applied the decals yet. I just got it running under its own power, so I'm tuning. I'll shoot some pics of the engine tomorrow, but it's pretty simple. One wire to the distributor, a hot cable to the starter, and two to the generator.

Where does the coil mount? Mine is rigged on with mechanic wire.

Thanks!

FF:

This is supposed to be an "official" VAC coil bracket, according to some of the experts. It looks like the one pictured in the service manual, so that's what I used.

It mounts on the plug side, rear-most valve cover stud.

I need to touch up some nuts and bolts...

Still looking for the high-pressure tubing from the engine pump to the mid-point of the tractor.

I notice the red battery cable for the positive ground - nice touch. Beautiful paint job and I see that you also believe wire ties are a wonderful invention. Schotte will give you static about using wire ties that are not OEM!:^)

Pay no attention, Frank- Todd obviously doesn't know what he's talking about! (grin)

Personally, I've got black corrugated wire mold holding the wires on MY tractor!

Your tractor looks great!

Thanks Mike!

I was thinking of trying some of that wire loom. I also saw some of the braided stuff that you feed the wires through to simulate an old timey harness. Bet it would be quite a task to get it all fed through, but it might look nice.

F I T,
I used that fabric loom when I rewired my W-6. It was a tough job to trying to push that wire though. Dang wire just don't push so I run smaller bailing wire and then pulled the wires through, worked a lot better than pushing :):)

PS: looks like your doing a greattttt job.

Frank,

This stuff has a split in it which you open up to lay the wires in, and then it springs back closed.

It's probably too ugly to use on your tractor, though!

Can't remember where we got it... it's been 15 years!

LOL! I have black wire ties on one side of the SC and white on the other. (modifications were required on the right side when no black wire ties were handy)

Yup. I had run out of black, and thought that I'd get the "correct" ones after everything was checked out and signed off.

I even have some pink ones that would probably pass for Flambeau Red in the sunlight.....

Hey Frank, when you get that beauty done you better get a glass house to put it in and show it off. Too nice to drive and scratch up!

John:

Oh, I'll get it dirty....I just can't seem to help it. I had it sitting out front idling today, and three of the neighbors drove up in their golf carts just to listen to it, and one said they bet I wouldn't use it like I use my '70', then another one of them said, "Isn't that what we said when he got that John Deere finished?". I had it muddy within a week.

Ha!

I must have done something right, though. It starts really easy, and from the first, it doesn't have any smoke at all so I think it's breaking in the rings just fine.

I had forgot how cute they sounded when they idled along.

Frank

ff:

I had bought a "universal" bracket at the car parts store that would have looked very close. Maybe would have had to add a strap over the top. You might be able to find one of those locally.
