Need some pricing help. I have a chance at owning my 2nd Case tractor. My brothers are FINALLY willing to sell me Dad's '64 gas 830. YEAH!! Talked em into using the Duetz 80-06 for an auger tractor. The head was rebuilt around 4000 hrs by my brother. The tractor has about 6-7000 hrs. It's a 6 speed hi-lo. Starts & runs great. Trany seems good. Clutch good. It is complete. The clamshell fenders are perfect(never used). Found the lost cast iron foot rests, rear step, batt cover, & 3 pt parts over Xmas. Lots of minor problems. Needs new hood & grill. PTO clutch shot. Seat, gauges, all knobs, accel linkage, steering linkage(wobbles bad in road gear) all shot. Rear tires 3/4 shot.
One brother wants $1500 & the other thought my offer of $400 was fine.
It wants to join it's old buddy the LA in MN!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve

That's excellent advice Case Poor. It's my mechanic brother who thinks it's still a great tractor & wants the $1500. Think I'll dicker some more. After all, I've been called a lot of bad things for paying $2,250 to get Dad's LA back after 20 years, I don't want people to think I'm getting cheap:).
Thanks,
Steve

Excellent advice guys. I'm sticking with my $400 offer now. It'll cost me $300 just to haul it the 400 miles to MN. PTO adjustment sounds promising, but did not know the gages were obsolete. It's kinda sentimental cause only 2 tractors are left in the family that Dad bought new. My LA & this 830. Everything else now is Deere(bought used).
Thanks again for the advice.
Steve

Hello Steve, The PTO clutch is easy to tighten. I have to do it to my 61 and 63 830 Case's. Pull off the cover on the right side in back. A long straight blade screw driver will let you pull the pins that let you turn the tighting ring on the PTO clutch. Good luck. Perry

1500. is way too high for a 7000 hour gasoline machine that needs work. Tell your brothers to work with you alittle to keep Dad's machine in the family. Good luck with it!

Hey Steve: Those problems aren't minor when you start spending money on them. I'm going to assume it's the Autolite Dash, and those parts are non-existant. Buy it as cheap as you can, definately less than the 1500. Good Luck!

Just a thought if its a sentamental piece its priceless, However if you consider the fact that you can get a nice rebuilt model for around 1800.00 to 2000.00. You would have to figure what your time would be worth. If you just want another case there are plenty a good ones for sale. Occasionally there are some good deals here on YT.
