Which of these heads would probably be better for pulling, (if there's a difference)? one is casting # 5576A and the other is A5505A thanks.

I prefer the 5576A head, that is what I use, but I stuck the pistons up in the chamber to get my compression up, the 5576 head flows better.

Hi LW,

DC head #5776A is the regular head.

Head #A5505A is the cylinder head for high altitudues.

According to the parts catalog, the high altitude head is to be used at altitudes of 6000 feet and up. Says it must not be used at altitudes below 6000 feet.

That's got me curious. I've heard of different carburetor jets for high altitudes, but not different cylinder heads. Anybody know what the difference in design was?

I always thought "high altitude" pistons meant ones that were "high rise" out of the engine block.

Let me know what you learn.

hey mike, dont think you are quite right on that 5576is all fuel and 5505 is hi comoression gas only and 6128 is for LP fuel high altitude pistons did come up out of the block to raise the compression on the 5576 head

Our DC is a 53 model, the 5505 head is what we have always run, no mods, just shaved it a little shorter at one time. But this year its time to juice the old girl up a little more, and I have a few heads around, no lps unfortunately, but I was curious about which head I should put my time and money into. We run at around 3300 rpms. so the head needs to flow at that rather than stock. Tell me if I'm wrong, but was the 5505 head used mainly on later DC's, my puller had this head, and one of our DC's on the farm (a 1953 also) has this head. But my older DC's (ones a 1947, ones a 1948) both have the other head. Also, is there any manifolds off a combine or power unit that are better to run than the later tractor manifold???? thanks for the advice guys. LW

Currently we run 5500, through 9000 on occasion,(depending on the pull, and whos there) but in about a month she's going on a diet down to under 4500 or lower if we can. We also have a cc that we are doing a engine for, should make 3500 lbs with it, I might have to go on a diet too though!!!LOL

Hi dctom,

I'm sure that you would know better than me... but I got that info out of Parts Catalog No. D221 (Serial No. 4511449 and after) dated 1-54.

The LP head was not listed in that particular catalog- but it did state exactly what I typed on the other two part numbers.

Regards, -Mike
