I am working on a 730 gas for a neighbor. The craburetor on it is absolutely wore out. A tried a new kit in it, but it did not help. The tractor is extremely hard to start and floods easily, once it does start, you cannot make any difference in the way it runs bu adjusting on the carburetor.

So my question is, I have found a TSX 749 for a reasonable price.. It goes on a 500 series, how much difference is there between the TSX 785 on it now and this TSX 749?

If the 749 will not work, does anyone have a 785 for sale that is in good shape? He does not have a lot of money right now due to being laid off and he needs the tractor to help him get firewood drug up and loaded se he can sell it to make some money.

I appreciate all your help in advance.

Bill

Are you sure the float is set to specs and does not have any gas inside? Is the float free to move without hitting the side of the casting?
Is the needle valve and seat unworn and installed correctly? Any of these things will flood the engine. Also check for a restricted air filter. I believe that as long as a carb is not physicaly broken it can be made to work with a good cleaning and maybe some new parts.
The 500B has a 164 engine, the 730 series has a 251 engine. The jets will be smaller in the 500b carb.
Please post your results.

The float is set right. It moves freely and does not have any gas inside it. I have checked all of this. I have rebuilt many carbs before, this one is just wore out. Whoever attempted to rebuild/adjust this one before ruined the threads in both passages, and enlarged the throttle shaft hole. You can not make the tractor run any different by adjusting the idle and main screw.

Don't say 'worn out', say 'damaged by an inept person'. I guess there's not much you can do but replace it..
