I am dealing on an adjustable wide front for my '54 SC. Question...Is the AWF from a '49 SC exactly the same as my '54 would have come with? If not, what diferences were there? The front end is 1500+ miles from here. I want to be absolutely sure I'm getting the right thing. I like staying factory. Thanks, Glenn F.

Hi, the front ends are the same. I've a 53 that came with a wf and I swapped the nf off my 49, they both changed easily. The DC mentioned is a different deal. Make sure you get the radiator base that comes off the block. For that matter, look at a parts book to be sure you get everything.

Larry, is the link and two arms the same also? Note the issue raised by Don R.

Glenn,
I have an early AWF on my late model DC and everything is fine except for front steering arm. Early models used a long straight arm and two long steering arms(one off the steering box and one off the front end). Late models used a curved steering arm and two short arms. The problem comes if you try to mix and match. I have the long front arm, curved long arm and short drop arm to clear the LP tank. It steers great-it just takes 20 turns to get there and it is almost dangerous. I have been looking for the right short arm for almost a year now and can't find one. My next option is to cut and weld the lond arm but I'd prefer not to. One caution: Ask lots of questions about the condition of that AWF. Most are in pretty bad shape. I thought mine was OK but ended up spending $250.00 for machine work and bushings to get it right. Let me know when you want to see my Case stuff. Don

John,
You are probably right. I have never driven an SC and haven't even seen too many. I assumed that DC and SC might have the same engineering in the steering department as people were always bitching about that chicken roost thing and I guess Case tried to hide it a little with that curved arm.

Hey Don: I believe the steering arms on the SC's are all the same.

DC switched to the curved steering link & short arms at #5529023 to accomodate a mounted corn picker. What ever arms and link came on the SC '54 narrow front would fit on the older adjustable wide front('49 vintage) if indeed they were wrong...correct? The curved link and short arms on Dad's '51 narrow front DC look the same as on my late model DC AWF.

Glenn,
The short front arm from a late DC AWF is different from the narrow front according to my experience. I bought a new one and it doesn't fit. Again this is a DC, not SC. Don
