I just received a quote for a replacement manifold on a Case tractor heres my questions why would one single part exceed the value of the tractor if it was completely restored, how much work really goes into making a manifold maybe there is alot more to it than I am thinking I mean they must all ready have the pattern made I would assume, I am not one who denies a person making a good living and I am not really interested in sending money to China either. makes me wonder if they should just give the tractors away for free and sit back and wait for the phone to ring. Hmmmmm m, what do you think?

Don't get discouraged. There are thousands of SC's out there that are junked out. It's just a challenge to find the parts at the right price. In the last year I have stumbled across a couple all fuel manifolds for the CC, and one for a 15-27. If you look to hard you don't seem to find them. Just keep your eyes open and you will stumble across what you want. I've been looking for parts for a Case Tractor that there are less than 10 of known to exist. I have found patterns that I can use to have them recast. I have found that recasting parts is not a big problem unless the parts are hollow in the middle. Thats when the molds get really complicated. Good Luck. Patience patience!

I understand. Parts remanufactorers know that some people will pay anything for new parts! Guess they have bottomless pockets! This is the differance between "restoring" and "rebuilding" . If you are restoring ,then you want new parts to make the tractor as good or better than new. If you are rebuilding, then used parts will be fine. Just remember, nobody can tell if your pistons and rings come from a aftermarket supplier or CASE-IH !! Just mt 2 cents worth!! Doug

You don't say what model, BUT, I needed one for my SC, which is one-peice thing. I found two fellas within 20 miles of me with tons of case tractors and got one real cheap. They don't always go online to sell. I've dealt with older fellas don't even have a computer, just word of mouth. Just ask around more. usually the bad spot on one tractor part is also bad on others. Mine was bad on the two tabs for air cleaner support and ate away at exhaust ports from gasket blow out years ago. I needed the top elbow part, worked all day to get off the studs I broke off, then found the rest was bad! They make copies of the VAC elbow, but the SC one is not made cheap, only one I found was like $100, just for little elbow part. Found the whole thing, pretty good shape, manifold and all for $30 from private guy! Keep the faith, your frustration is hurting your enjoyment of the hobby!

Maybe I'm missing something but somehow I just don't get your name (or handle or whatever they call those crazy things we call ourselves). Yours I just can't figure out.

And the worst thing you can do is respond to them.

Its not as cheap as you may think, the wooden part of the mold is pricey, you then have to cast it. I have a friend that does that and I know the work that goes into it.

We used to have cast tools made for plastic molds (computers have taken over that area). not as complicated as a manafold pattern but wood patterns would still cost us $5000-$10000 depending on the size and for mass prod. wood may not hold up so add even more $$$ plus they need repaired on occasion more $$$ so for low volume stuff that pattern investment is a large chunk of the part cost... THEN they have to machine the raw casting so you can mount it to the tractor.. at $50/hour that adds up too....dealer wanted $500+ for a 730 manafold. others may give a lower price.. I may try to fix 1st..?.. too many honey-do's to do 1st though... maybe by spring????

Ya just gotta be a little more resourceful, like posting the part needed here and a few other web sites, callin round to a 100 or so tractor wreckers and so on..... .... ya never know the junk someone has in their shop may be a treasure to you. Had that work both ways in past, feels great either way!
