Don't want to sound too dumb but i just got 2 sc tractors to restore . They both have hydraulics, a drawbar and another "u" shaped apparatus on the back. This hooks to a hydraulic cyclinder mounted on the left side of the tractor. What is this and how was it used? The 2 arms on the "u" are not movable right to left but do rotate up and down. Can I convert this to a 3 point hitch anyway?

Yes, you can convert it to a 3-point hitch with some effort. If you plan on lifting anything that is very heavy, you will need to add a hydraulic cylinder to the right side as well. If you don't, it will bend the lifting arms by only pulling up on one side. I can get you a photo of the 3-point hitch on my tractor if interested.

The lift was for Case implements as tractor companies wanted to sell them with the tractors. If you turn the pins in the same direction on a Class I 3-point implement it will fit but it will be a little off center. You might need a longer pin on the side that faces into the tractor. You can then use a turnbuckle mounted from the lift to the back of the implement for the 3rd point. Did this with my SC with a small 7' blade to plow snow. Works great!

Todd is talking about an Eagle Hitch, you might have a couple that are old enough to not have an Eagle Hitch but they do have a hydraulic lift for a cultivator & other implements. Its "U" shaped, & has just holes in the ends, not the sliding clamps like an Eagle Hitch has. Eagle Hitches have arms more like whats on a Ford & have an adjusting crank on the right arm. Eagles don't have any side-to-side movement. Cultivator arms-at least on the old mechanical lift units, I don't have one that has hydraulic lift-have big return springs on them. (I've got 2 SC's with mechanical lifts & a '54 SC with an Eagle Hitch-gotta get another one w/hydraulic lift.) You gotta get an owner's manual for your tractor-one for the year it was made-it'll tell you a lot more about the lift system. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I do not have the eagle hitch. No claws. Just the cultivator "u". But I don't have any springs either, just an external hydraulic cylinder to adjust the up and down portion. No top link. Any body have a working idea to make a top link?

Here's a pic of my top link adapter. Sorry, but that's the closest pic I've got.

Growing up in an extended family that had more IH than Case (Dad was the rebel with the Case) I have much experience with "fast hitch" (IH 2 point) and regard top links as optional equipment.:^) However, you can "by-pass" the top link by attaching a turn-buckle from the rear of the implement to the lift assembly. This will prevent the implement from flipping back when it is lifted. I used one and angled it to the right. For stability on heavier implements two could be used. Also, my blade weighs less than 100 lbs.

My lift is an older mechancical with the U-shape and not the Eagle. I use one spring with the snow blade as it will not stay down if you put both springs on. The spring does help to slow the drop when you let it down. You owe me 2 cents! :^)

Todd, I'll pay ya next time I see ya. Never thought a blade would work on the culitvator lift arms-sounds like a neat idea. I've got a HEAVY DUTY 7 1/2 footer on my Eagle Hitch SC, had to modify it a little to get the Eagle Claws to work just right, but you'd think it was specially made for it now. If I could just figure how to hook up a cylinder to angle the blade without getting off the seat, it'd really be slick! (Another $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
