I'm trying to recover from what I now realize was a big mistake, that is taking out the PTO drive shaft and clutch assembly from my '53 DC4. Now that I'm in this mess, I'd like to get the tractor back on line before the snow flies (I'm counting on it to blow snow off my very long driveway).

I understand that it is a tricky job to get the assembly back in. Just so that I'm sure I'm explaining my problem correctly, I'm including a link to a picture that shows where I am with this. The clutch assembly is "mostly" assembled, but it needs to be put into its housing and the cover replaced. If anyone has any advice, I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks for any help you could offer -- Chris

Been there done that.. 2 choices 1- keep at it , with picks and time you can get it back in. 2 - call the local dealers and see if they have a hub that they use. I use the same hub on CASE , WHITE and a few others all the same. good luck

Chris: Klyde has a great idea on trying to borrow a hub... The pick and screwdriver approach is much easier with 2 peoeple (experience here)
As to your concern about the PTO spinning when not engaged I think your snow blower will stop it...I have a sickle bar and finish mower and it doesn't spin either one unless engaged.. (if it does spin your snowblower when not engaged you probably have the clutches adjusted to tight). There was a cover (4205AA) for the shaft for times it wasn't in use...It also provides a lower top link mount. They are hard to find. You could have something fabricated fairly cheaply to cover it. Do you have a manual? If not I can scan in the PTO Pages. I think I unhid my email
Good Luck

I got it back together -- thanks to Paul for his help and manual pages! Since I didn't have two people, I was able to do it myself by compressing the rings and putting a wooden wedge to hold the clutch in the engaged position -- then I carefully aligned the disks as well as I could and then used the dental pick method to get them into place. I think I got pretty lucky, after the first ring, the rest followed pretty well. Thanks again to all who helped!
