Hello All Im having some trouble with a stuck on 830 diesal engine... here ok the story..
my father purchased this tractor a week ago from a local tractor jocky type he knows, the Jocky sayed the ppl he got it from rebuilt the engine then found out the injector pump was bad, they didnt seem to want to pay to rebuild the pump so they let the newly rebuilt engine just sit, this story may or may not be true, but a few things make me think it is at least partialy true #1 the engine has new heads on it and are definitly not original (they dont have the compression relif, and the tracor was set up for this{any ideas on the heads.?}) #2 the oil is pure #3 i pulled the injectors out of it and what appeared an smelled like Automatic transmition was in the first 2 cylinders,
ok about the motor not turning, i pulled the starter off the engine and took a small bar and pried the flywheel a bit and the engine does turn about 4 to 6 inches on the flywheel and the pistons are moving a bit cause it shoved ATF out of the first cylinder while the 2nd cylinder stoped runing so.. im at a stump...could it be just rust in the back 2 cylinders that dont appear to have anything in them or somthing worse? or what i need ideas to try here, i really dont want to rip this thing down :)if i can find a solution that dosent require it.

thanks all, happy holidays :)

It could be possible if they rebuilt the heads that they installed the wrong valve seats. When I install new valve seats in a 30 series head I install an extra deep seat and cut them down so the valve hits the piston with the head gasket out. They sure start better that way. Good Luck

If this tractor is more problem than you want e-mail me and lets talk. I am looking for an early 61 or 62 830 case-o-matic diesel to restore.

You are probably hydraulically locking the engine when the piston comes up against the oil in the cylinder and cannot compress it, or do you have all the injectors removed?

seems strange it would have ATF in the cyld. if something wasn't already wrong with it. Its easy to pull the pan and take a look. might ? be able to see some ATF leak past the rings. Is there ATF in the other cyld. causing the motor to hydraulicly "lock" up???? ie the ATF will only compress so much if one of the others is on the compression stroke..... ....

I'd say pull the heads. That way you can actually see what is going on. Don't forget to bolt down the sleeves before you try to turn it over. You could unseat them. Could even be a lower end reassembly problem. Sounds like you will be stating from square one on this one, but you will then know for sure what you are working with. At least you maybe able to salvage some of the parts. If they were new when it was "rebuilt".

Since tractor does not have the right heads on it I would pull them off and see what is going on. At least pull the pan and look at the bottom side, Something sounds wrong, usually once you get that much movement you can go the full cycle pretty easily. Also if tractor is a clutch you may want to depress it and try to roll engine first. I have bought newly overhauled tractors just to find other problems. Good Luck
