I have a 49 VAI. I am having to replace the front rims and would like to paint it close to original. These are 1 piece rims. Is the whole rim painted Flambeu Red or just the center with the outer part Silver (galv) ? Thanks, Mike

Thanks Kestrel and VAI Guy. I forgot about the wagner loaders. Used to see a lot of them on the old fords, they were built like that and had front pumps. No wonder it looks so good on your tractor, made for it. Wouldn't mind having one for my 51 VAI. I have seen Lull loaders, pictures of Proffit loader and I saw a VAI with a Shawne pipe frame loader and backhoe. VAI Guy, hoe do those 12.4 tires work on a VAI? I wonder if mabey they might be too big. Mine has what is left of the original Goodyear 9 X 24 tires. This tractor was almost burned up 20 years ago. It was sitting 15 ft. from my neibors garage when it burned down. I bought it 4 yrs. ago. It has a long way to go. I did get the motor to turn over. I looked in the owners book and I didn't know they were geared so fast. It had a lot power in low gear when it was running. I always thought it was the cutes little tractor. Thanks Charley.

The 12.4s work fine, although they are about the largest you could go with using the original clamshell fenders (you only have about two fingers-width clearance at the top). The tractor came with them when I purchased it at the municipal auction. Like I said earlier, the original factory tires make the tractor look like a Farmall Cub or "A" (what Case fan would want that) Good luck.

Thanks Kestrel. I thought those looked like that size, old size was 10 X 24. I just bought a good original owerners manuel off of E Bay. It is for the 51 style VAI like mine. The same tractor as yours except for the shape of the front axle. Mine is srtaight acros, in 52 they turned the axle up in the center. It says the rear tire size was 9 X 24 and 10 X 24. When I put new tires on mine, I am thinking about using 12.4 X 24. Is that a Ford Dearborn loader? Looks good on there.I see the front pump. Good luck. Charley.

Charley,

Hello. The loader is an original Wagner tube loader that was built & designed for Case VA and VAI tractors. The company is still in the metal fabrication business. I thought it was a rube goldberg affair until I came across an original Wagner sales brochure showing the exact loader on a VAI.

I believe they also made them for Ford and other small tractors. If I can scan it in my machine, I'll forward the picture on to you.

Charley, I have a 53 VAI with 12.4 x 24 on the rear. Makes the tractor look much beefier. I also just purchased original manuals off of ebay. Mine were the 2nd edition operator's manual and separate parts list book. I know they are a little older than my tractor, but you couldn't beat the price for the pair. Most of the parts are the same anyways, and the diagrams are priceless no matter what the vintage of book is. Thanks.

Mark

Mike,

I have a '56 Case VAI. Mine were all orange when I took 'em down to bare metal. I went with all orange for the repainting job, much easier than doing a two-tone.

Also, this is my first photo post. If it works, there should be an old corn crib in the background getting a face lift.

The rims on mine were orange in center and silver on the outer rim but the silver looked like it was spray painted on.

Hi. VAI one peice front wheels are one color, flambeau red. Rear wheels are silverish rims with flambeau red wheel centers. Fine looking tractor you have. What size rear tires on it? Charley.

Charley, I believe they're 11.2 X 24s that have seen better days. This winter I plan to fuss around with the rear end, fix a few things like brakes, and paint her up to match the front end. Fun things like taking the loader off come first I guess.
