311 magneto system

My 311 has a magneto but there appears to be no off switch. My father-in-law has used the tractor since the early 70s and to stop the engine you go to idle, put on the brakes, put it into a higher gear and let out on the clutch. Is this correct or is something missing on my tractor.
(I know how it should be wired but is this what Case did.)
Thanks,
Dave

Dave, I'm just not that familiar with the 311 and figured it would have a battery distributor on it. A ground post terminal can be added to any magneto for that with a external switch and terminal for a wired switch also. Many later models of mags didn't come with the terminal for some reason though but should be put on them for safety reasons. Just let me know what brand and model of magneto you have and can advise on what terminal kit I would have for it. If you have a bat. dist. maybe the terminal is broke off?
