How important is it to you folks in restoring your tractors to keep the original 6v system? I know you would never win in "original" shows, but what do most folks do? Glenn

Hey Glenn; Why would you want to convert? With a good Group 2, 6 Volt, and good heavy cables, such as 2/0 guage which is much heavier than 1 guage, most DC's will start. However, with dome pistons, & High compression head, 12 volt is better. If you do it, get a 12V Autolite Gen. from a later CASE tractor so it looks original. I've done it to 2 DC's.

John Thanks for your speedy reply. I guess this is one area that never concernen me too much...putting an alternator on my DC. We sure had a lot of trouble keeping a 6 nd even 8v battery on our DC growing up. For years and years we simply crank started it. But as I get more and more sweet original parts for my DC I am beginning to think about it more. I'm sure the heavier cables would help. I like your idea of the autolite generator. I would need to look for 6v lights too as I have nice/new 12v lights on it now. I agree the automotive alternator does sorta kill that sweet original Case look. But too I guess I am departing in another area as well in that I plan on putting on 15.5's. At first they will be on the 12" rim but I may very well hve to get 14' rims yet. Also, I haven't decided just what size front tires I'm going to go with. If I go 15.5 rear, that would call for something a little wider on the front too. I have a little time to think about it. Glenn F.
