I recently purchased a 1963 Case 930 Comfort King. This tractor has a 1000 RPM PTO. I would like to switch this to a 540 RPM PTO. Can someone tell me how difficult this switch would be? What parts are necessary? Can they be purchased or would they only be available as used parts. What cost range am I looking at?

Mr. JC Marleau if you would either respond with an email to my email account or give me another phone call (if I am not there please leave your number), I would like to talk to you about the PTO parts.

My email server does not work to well, so I have not been able to get an email message to you yet.

I will be out of town on Thanksgiving and Friday after Thanksgiving.

I would be most interested in purchasing the necessary parts for the switch over. Please looking into what parts are required and if in fact you do have the parts please contact me.

I had the same questions when i bought my 2 1030's. But an 1000 to 540 adapter from TSC for $40.00 works well on my 100 hp 1030's for baleing hay, mowing, etc. I just run the engine at 1/2 pto speed. A square baler designed to need a 40 hp tractor does very well like this. Now a big round baler that requires a 70hp tractor is a different story. My point is, what pto work do you need to do, if it is light, stick with the 1000.

The adapter idea was suggested by my local Case dealer. I purchased an adapter, but before I used it I thought I would ask the Woods factory guy what he thought of using and adapter and 1/2 speed for an MD 184 Woods cutter. His response was that under no circumstance should this be done. Now I am afraid I will damage my bushhog, if I use the adapter.

Have you tried using a bushhog that was designed for 540 RPMs?

The dealer is wrong, in my opinion. The mower doesn't know or care what the engine rpm is.As long as the tractor will operate your equipment with the adapter, go for it.
