How do you hold the sleeves to bore them? Don't they want to spin in the block?

Hey dctom; I just curious; Why would you bore an old sleeve that undoubtly has cavitation started when new ones are readily available? I'm considering machining costs and clean-up: all those metal chips dropping down in.

You can't still get SC sleeves from Case can you? I'm still looking for some 3-11/16" ones.

Hey C. Amick; You mean 3 5/8 sleeves, right?? Those sleeves are still available for the 5600A block. I checked today.

No, Don L. says that the pistons I have are 3-11/16" based on the number stamped on them. They are the aluminum button topped pistons. Do you know if the sleeves for the 5600A block have a single "O" ring seal of a double one?

Tom did youi bore to exactly 4 inches then hone? I have a neighbor with a lathe so boring should be no problem I seem to recall that chuck should not be so tight as to distort sleeve Any tips on how to turn the sleeve out???

Guys , bore them in the block with cylinder bar, put one in at a time , set bar on block where there are no sleeves. Boring in the block is better than boring in the lathe , doesn't distort the bore from holding in chuck. I bore and sleeve cont'l and waukesha liners quite often.

yes bore to 4 " he will need a good support under the sleeve and a strong boreing bar clamp it from the top where it wont distort take lite cuts so you dont have to clam[p so tight tom

Hey Bill; I don't have the part # here at the house, but those sleeves are readily available from CASE. I'm thinking about machining cost and the pitting in the old sleeves.

The last part numer I have (sub book) is A26324

My sub book is about 14 years old, but I am willing to check part numbers for C, D, L, LA, & S series. I have all of those parts books too.

JUst noticed, I used the wrong E-mail address on
the previous post.

I think Case's computer system can convert original part numers to the latest substitution numbers. John, you can correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Hey Tom; I'm not sure, cause sometimes the parts counter will tell me I have an invalid number, but then they look somewhere & then they tell me it's a changed number and we go from there. I think too many parts men give up when they see invalid # and don't check further.

John:

I guess I'm lucky because I have a parts man I've trained myself over the last 15 years. He has
been with four different dealers in that time and
he's fairly sharp. But, like I said, I guess I'm lucky. I had good training back in the 60's just
accompanying my dad when he went for parts. I
learned to read the books and then in 1973 a
dealer gave me a new LA parts book he had lying around; the rest is history.
