The old prestolite generator on my 530 finally quit charging so I replaced it with an alternator with a one wire connection. The alternator is working good but when I park the tractor with the switch off, the battery drains to completely dead in just a few hours. Does anyone know what could be going on here. One strange thing I noticed after I installed the alternator was that the front headlights would no longer work but the rear light would. I just pulled a wire from the rear light to the front lights to make them work. Could something not be grounded properly? Thanks.

Check out this website

If you do not wire these right it will drain your battery, my friend comes into work at 7, we just went thru all this, send me an email at work and I may have more info for you.
Thanks
Mike

Draining Battery:

Maybe the alternator 'leaks' current. Some alts need to be completely disconeted from the battery when not running or they will discharge your batt.

Front Lights: I wonder if this could be due to the gen 'boost' circuit that was enabled when the lights were on. May need to rewire and eliminate this circuit.
