Hello Gentlemen:

Well- I've stumped the guys at The Home Labyrinth (TM), and at the NAPA store, too.... so I thought I'd turn to the pros and ask you guys:

I've got a Crafstman electric air compressor and tank that I use to inflate tractor tires and run my impact wrench, etc.

Out where my tractor lives, there is no power. While I've got a good sized tank, it's not enough to do very much work before needing a refill (plus it has a slow pressure leak-down, to boot.)

I am looking for a fitting that I can snap into the quick connector on my air hose- that will have an automobile valve stem on it so that I can drive to town and charge my air tank up at the nearest gas station.

I've looked through every type of air fitting I can find, and I can't find anything that would perform this function. Surely I'm not the only person that ever needed this.

I'd prefer to buy a fitting rather than make something- as I have this mental image of a steel valve stem shooting out of my home-made adapter at about 125 p.s.i. ! (grin)

Any help would be appreciated.

-Schotte

Mike, you can buy an adapter tire valve with 1/8" pipe fittings on it You should be able to find one at a well service shop as they are used on well tanks.

Mike,
They make a air iftting for large construction tires valve stem to reduce. This will let you use standard air nozzle to inflate your tire . I will look in the book at work if you need the part number.

Thanks Jerry (and everyone else)- but the fellows on the Tool Talk board gave me several web links to just the part I need.

Turns out I can get one at Grainger.

I appreciate your efforts.

Regards, -Schotte

All you need is a valve with a male Milton coupler on it. Open the valve (air would then come out the Milton coupler) and fill the tank with a common tire chuck. Tire chuck will fill through the male Milton coupler just like it does through a tire valve stem. Make sure you turn the valve off before you remove the tire chuck. If you are lucky they will have the same Milton coupler on their tire chuck. Remove their tire chuck and snap their hose onto your tank and open the valve.

What about the air valve on a water pressure tank. Most hardware stores around us have them. The one end is 1/8 male pipe

Mike,

They make a brass fitting thats a 'valve stem' with a 1/8 NPT male on the other end. You could use an 1/8 x 1/4 NPT brass adapter to step that up to your quick connect. I'll try and check with Travis and see if he doesn't have one amoung his myriad of brass fittings.
