Hi

I havr replaced my ignition switch and simply copied the arrangement o f the wires from the old one.

I have been told to connect the glow plug straight into the back of the switch, but how can I tell which one is meant to go to the glow plug (which is currently disconected with no obvious wire nearby).

the arrangement of wires into the back of the switch has a group of 3, a group of 2 and a single wire.

To be honest I don't know what any of these do!

If anyone could shed some light on this I would be very grateful!

Thanks

Charlie

It is the single wide spade. The battery wire connects to the double spade. It has one wide and one narrow spade. The spades should also be numbered. I think it is number three.

The glow plug spade is number three.

Thanks Elmer

That one (or at least a wire with the same colours) has been attached (by a previous owner) to the alternator.

Is there any reason you can think of why they would have disconected the wire from the glow plug and atttached it to the alternator?

The alternator has 3 spades and there are only 3 loose wires coming out of the loom at that point which as you know is just below the glow plug.

So it seems I have 4 spades (glow plug and alternator together) and only 3 wires!

I am sure to be missing something very obvious, but if you think you know what a previous owner might have been trying to do, and can suggest what I ought to do to restore it to the correct setup it would again be very much appreciated?

Btw, I know the glow plug was intentionally disconected because the diesel feed to it has been doubled over and tied up!

Thanks again for your info.

Charlie

Charlie, It sounds like the Previous Owner used the Momentary Switch (used for Glow Plug) contact of the switch to "Excite" the Alt.

It is possible to switch both but you MUST use a DIODE between the "Alt Excite Term" and the connection to Wire # 3... such that the Alt Excite Voltage (during Running) does not activate the Glow Plug.

Assuming Neg Ground... The white Band Marking (cathode)end of the Diode (1N4003) should connect to the ALT Term. The diode can be Soldered to the End of the Wire with heat shrink over top of it...

Hope This Helps,
