970 Narrow Front?

Still thinking about that 970. I bought a parts book and some other things off EBAY and the parts book shows a narrow front. Anyone ever seen one with the narrow front? How hard would it be to switch the wide front to the narrow front? Anybody ever run a mounted corn picker on one of these? I am not sure how the PS would be mounted, most pickers I am familiar with have to have the fenders off the tractor to mount them. also, the one I am looking at has a cab. How hard is it to switch to an open station?

Mike

Our old parts book shows two styles of steering sectors. The first one has four holes, drilled and tapped, that the pedestal is bolted to. If it's a wide front, the part that the tie rods are bolted to goes there instead. However, the newer style sector is one piece only. You can only use them on the wide front, since they're welded to the sector shaft. If you want to change a wide front to narrow on a newer style, you have to replace the steering sectors.

Jim, do you know what year or with what SN that they changed to the one piece? Thanks.

Seen both a 970 and a 1070 Black Knight with narrow fronts. Both were used for pulling. No cabs either.

About 20 years ago, I saw a 1370 puller with a narrow front.
