Power steering pump is not working and can't find one anywhere. Its a gear driven pump. Is there anyone out there with one or any ideas on how to substitute.

Randy, try shimming the relief valve as Mike suggests, If that doesn't work take it apart. The Case manual states that it is unserviceable but it is relatively easy to get apart & back together. I have a '59 also, the only thing wrong with my pump was the woodruff key was missing under the drive gear in the pump, an obvious factory omission. Maybe the same guy assembled yours. Use ATF (dextron) only. Joe

After looking at the pump I see that there is two rivits holding it together. Is this how I get it apart and then how do you put it back together?

Randy, you will have to take the pump off the engine and clamp it in a vice to disassemble.

The pump reservoir is an open ended can that slides over an o-ring on the pump casing and is staked with 4 rivets.

The rivet shanks are rh raised spiral type. Turn out ccw with visegrips. Rivets are reusable.

A few years ago, I wrote a disassembly/assembly procedure for a friend. He was not a mechanic so it is too long to post here.

I can email a copy if you want it.

If you haven't already, try putting a washer or small nut behind the spring in the relief valve. This sure made a difference on my 210B. Instead of being completely unsteerable, now it will steer with just a bit of abnormal grunting. Another trick is to lengthen the drag link arm on the left knuckle. Just gives it more leverage to work with.

Being gear driven, theres not much to go wrong with those pumps, except wear on the gears or on the plate holding them in place.
