I'm looking at a 1494 and the 1st and 2nd ranges in the transmission are slipping. Is this a common problem and has anyone experienced the same? I'm wondering how sensitive these transmissions are to fluid levels? Anyone know if a previous owner might have blown any of the seals by over or under filling? I know its a powershift and I wonder how similiar they are to automatic transmissions. Anyone have a clue what a rebuild on this might run? Thanks in advance for any info.

Al

You have a problem with C-1 clutch. Check the clutch pressure on C-1 as two the pressure on C-2 and C-3. If the pressure us the same then you will probibly find the spines in the C-1 clutch plate have wore out

Thanks Roy!

Gotta ask you a couple questions that will make you shake your head.

Is there a boresight or pressure point that will allow me to check these pressures? Can it be checked by "feeling" the clutch pedal and its resistance while in these ranges? Or do I have to split the tractor and measure it?

If the splines are shot, is this a major deal best left to a trained case technician or is it a "fixeable-by-farmer" problem? I've split a couple tractors to replace broken shafts and in one case a PTO shaft that was only accessible from the tranny, but I'm anything but a transmission specialist.

You seem to know what you're talking about. Where are you and how much!! (just kidding)

Thanks again,

Al
