Hi, Does anyone know how to replace the fan, alternator, Pully, belt on a 1977 CK 580? It has a 188 Diesel Engine. The problem seems to be getting the old one off the bottom pulley which appears to drive a pump infront of the radiator. Any help sure would be aprrecated!
Thanks,
John

I think you'll find it easier to put a link-belt on the tractor. The belt unhooks to come off and come on. I've had on on my 580 CK for years and it lasts just as well as a one piece v-belt. I use the same on my Cletrac and my John Deere crawler also.

jdemaris, Could you tell me where I can get the link belt that you speak of in your post. As I have posted, this fan belt replacement is turning into a nightmare, the pump will not move even with the two bolts loose. From looking at the parts book, there should only be a little ridge on the flange of the pump holding it in the bracket that is the pump frame mounting bracket after the bolts are loose.' This ridge on the flange must be really rusty to hold the pump this tight after the bolts are loose.
Thanks,
John M.

I've had that problem with many machines that have crankshaft driven hydraulic pumps. Pump should fall out, but gets stuck and it can hardly be pried out. Anyway, Fenner sells the "power twist" take-apart belts. Sometimes Harbor Freight or Northern Tools has them too. Fenner is at Link

John, the pump has to be taken off or I should say slide forward, it is coupled with a spline coupler, when the pump is loosened up it will slide off. been awhile since I have changed one, don't have to disconnect the hyd lines just the two bolts holding the pump on.

Slacker, Thanks for the follow up, I will keep you posted of my progress. I thought it looked like a splined shaft but you confirmed it. Thanks for the info. again, I appreciate it!
John

Easiest way is to remove the panal below the grill. Remove the two bolts holding the pump on and pull the pump off the crank, smoetimes it's easier if you loosen the clamp on the hoses. You can then take the belt off. Put evernthing back and your done.

Hey Russ, I took the two 3/4" bolts out of the pump and I can't get the pump to budge at all. I removed the four bolts out of the grill to get at the pump but did not take the the pump guard off the front,(I believe this is the pannel below the grill that you refered to). The guard bolts won't budge either, but I noticed that the pump guard bolt mounting brackets look like they are sloted. This fan belt replacement is turning into a nightmare! Everything is so darn tight, I don't think they have ever been off. Anymore suggestions from anyone out there!
Thanks,
John M.
