I thought I knew all things CASE, but never heard of the 4994. According to Don's post it had a V-8. What did CASE use for a tranny? Was it the same frame as the 4894? What kind of problems were encountered?

A parts yard in MI. was looking for a part on the parts locator with 400 members and got no response for a 4994 rear U joint. Then I called around and finally found a "junker" on SD, [my first one ever]. The man wanted $1000.00 for the obsolete part . Case last list price was $2364.18. He knows what he has huh? I have never seen one, butI have been asking folks time to time if there is one around. I bet it would make them monster trucks look sick crushin cars! Any ideas for a name?? Hummmm.

Its biggest downfall out here in CA was the trans. It used the same trans as a 225hp Stieger. Another neat feature was its hydraulic hood. There was a habd pump located on the left side which was used to raise the fiberglass hood. When driving this beast, it didn't roll to start, it lurched. When I was at the CP&E store in Fresno, we had one for a couple of weeks so that we could show it at the Fresno Farm show. There were a few units sold out her in CA but were used mainly to pull 15 yard laser controlled scrapers in tandem.
Another item of interest on this is that it took second to noone. It had a rated fuel consumption of over 25 gallons per hour which explianed the rather large fuel tanks.

It has the same powershift as the 9100 series Case-IH. They had problems with the axles, they weren't near heavy enough to take the torque. If memory serves they only made 214 of them total and quit.

John,
I think it was the 4994 that was at the Kansas state fair back in 85 or so. It had v8 Scania turbo. According to "full steam ahead", they had 12 speed powershift, twin-disk transmission and Zf four wheel steering planetary axles. they had problems with the axles and about the time they got that all fixed case bought out steiger and used their models. only 200 4994's were made. Brumbaugh said he was fillming an introductory tape for this tractor in Arizona where they had a chisel with 24 inch chisels on it. At the end of the demo the driver wanted to see just what it would do so he gradualy started letting it down deeper untill the toolbar was on the ground. The tractor kept going but the smoke "looked like the proverbial freight train pulling 200 cars up a mountainside. They did make a bigun. be a rare one to have in a collection. emagind having a bigger collector than you were using.

It was a larger frame than a 4894. It had a 12 speed full powershift, not an RPS34 like all other tractors. I think that it had only 2 or 3 reverse speeds. I will have to try to find my old info on it.
I made a 4894 look small. It was 400 Hp.

John--Come out to Great Falls MT and I will take
you out to a farm where they still use a 4994. And, yes, they do resemble the other cradb steer tractors, just a lot biigger.
Right off, I can only think of one in current use, but I'd bet a couple of hours driving around this area would turn up a couple more.
Ertl made two versions after the I-H buy-out, both
were painted red. One decal manufacturer made 1/16 scale decals for the pre-merger tractor and I got a set and then painted one of the toys balck and white.
