So, does your SC go for 30 hours without using a quart of oil? (was reading previous discussion) My engine needs rebuilt so I fill up the oil to the top hole and then I "check" the level of fuel in the gas tank! Almost ran it out last winter plowing snow. It wasn't smoking in the cold weather so hey, it wasn't using much oil. Then one day when I idled down the oil pressure went to 5 pounds. It only needed 3 quarts. I returned to checking it daily.

Todd,

My SC doesn't use much oil at all. I never have to add any between oil changes, and it doesn't get very diluted... but then again, I don't use the tractor an awful lot.

It's just my weekend mowing tractor and play toy.

I check the oil every time I run it.

(By the way- I didn't make up those service recommendations- they came straight from the Case SC Operator's Manual.)

With regards to your other post- I've got to say I prefer a good hot mag over the distributor. Being in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery- you're just a hand crank away from having a running tractor!

I agree with Mike, a magneto is way better. Airplanes and race cars still use them, and those people have to know what they're doing. If you want to see a laundry list of distributor problems, go over the the 8N board. Page after page of nothing but problems with botched conversions. A good mag will NEVER let you down...
