What color are the rear rims suppose to be painted on a 1940 VC?

Like some of the guys below already said, black is the color for those rims. The VI industrials (at least some of them) had the rims plus the cast hubs black. I have a standard V but I've painted the rims silver (even though I know it's wrong), the silver rims just look better I'd say.

Original color literature shows them black. Clamps are silver, wheels are flambeau.

Styled RC also had black rims. My books show silver on DC 1941 and later.

Guess this just adds to the confusion. Factory picture 2-4-41 of a VC in "Full Steam Ahead" show rims black.
