I have been into old tractors for a long time and stuck mostly to Oliver, John Deere, and Farmall with the exception of a MM. I have two olivers and was thinking of trading my 66 for a DC-3 Case. Both in the same condition. I haven't been around case tractors hardly at all and was wondering what everybody thinks. Can you still get parts pretty easy? What are some of the things to look for when looking at a DC. What ever information you guys can provide will be appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris,

I work a DC and grew up in the seat of one. I just simply love everything about them, but I'm partial.
I would agree that the DC's are not among the most frequently listed tractors for parts out of catalogs or websites, but I have never had any great trouble finding anything. I just recently bought new brakes from Don Livingston, who frequents this discussion board and has many Case parts.
As far as things to look for, I really don't know of anything particular other than the usual things that apply to any older tractor. One thing that comes to mind...unless it's restored or has been loved, don't expect to find working brakes.

Good luck! Randy in MO

Chris; the DC case is one of the most rugged tractors built very simple and easy to work on, people didnt like them because of the stearing arm but that was so simple and trouble free and made them steer very easy, get used to it lilke any thing else and they are great good lugging power and blanced almost perfect, I pull two of them and do quite well against the M's G"s and even the ub molines be a good trade DCTOM

I have several different tractor brands as well (no Olivers). Case is probably my favorite though. The Case DC is probably the least expensive of all the antique Case tractor models. I would say that the Oliver 66 is worth quite a bit more than the Case DC, if they are both in similar condition. The Case DC engine is a very old design. It has babbit bearings in it. Parts are not easy to find, but they are available.

Thanks for the info. I think I might try to get a little boot with my Oliver. I would like to have an orange one next to green, red, and yellow ones, and hesitated on buying an AC. I like the look of the case DC when it is all fixed up. They kind of set apart, as well as many other tractors do. I think it would look good at a show next to my other ones, so I think I'm going to do it. My need a little help from you guys as I haven't messed with them a whole lot. Thanks.

Ughhh, wait a minute.. it's not orange, it's actually "Flambeau Red". But since you're new to CASE, I'm sure we could overlook it. I think you'd be pretty happy with the DC. Great power, and the machines are easy to work on. These CASE rigs have a good head design and the large valves help them breath well and make some power. We've had the head off a '39 DC-4 and a '46 IHC W-9 at the same time and the valve size diameter is pretty comparable, if you can believe that! Parts are available from a few guys that post pretty regularly. I've had great luck dealing with Don Livingston, there are others out there that sell used parts too, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about that. They're right that the Olivers seem to bring a higher price than CASE rigs for some reason, so if you can get a little cabbage in your trade for the '66, give it a shot! One nice thing about Case tractors being "not as collectable" (other people's words, not mine) as other makes does tend to keep values slightly lower than some others from what I've seen. I do know that green paint must be pretty expensive to make as they all seem to be sky high for some odd reason. Get the DC, if it's in good shape then you won't be sorry! It would be a great addition to your fleet and you may just find you have a new favorite.. Whatever you decide to do, good luck.

Thanks alot for the info. I'll talk to the guy and see what happens. Sorry about the "orange" thing, I knew that they had flambeu red paint I have always called it orange. I'm a little color blind and it looks the same as AC's orange paint to me. I won't let it happen again. Thanks to everybody for the help.
