Does anyone know how Case equipped the S or D series tractors with headlights in 1942? I have a 1942 Case SO that has only one 6" guide light on the right front. I just figured one was missing, but when I checked the other side of the tractor grill(radiator side cover) I discovered that it did not have the extra hole for the mounting bracket that the right side does. I have read that the earlier tactors only had two lights mounted on the rear fenders(S, SC) and wondered when Case changed them to dual front lights. Thanks for any help.

Very early SC models had your light configuration. Early SC models (my dad had one) with solid hub rear wheels usually had two fender lights with one or an extra pointing to the rear. Later SC models (1944? and up like mine) have a light bar similar to IH Farmall mounted over the battery box and extending to each side. The rear light is mounted by the PTO shaft.

I have a hard time finding very much information on the SO tractors. I have never found a factory picture of an SO that shows the back of the tractor or the rear light configuration. I guess the early models changed a lot in the early forties from what I have read. My '42 model also has the double(six) spoke steering wheel. When did that change to the more common single/three spoke wheel?

Todd, couple of things. The Hamilton Sc has a few errors, I think they sell it as an early forties model, I have one but box is stored away. Has three point, not till fifties. The steering wheel debate has been hashed over many times. Case switched from the 6 spoke to the three around 1947. Our 46 had the 6 and the 48 had the three.

Thanks.
