Best way to add weight to front of SC?

This tractor has so much horsepower that I can't keep the front end on the ground. Not really, what's causing the problem is the disc mower that's on the rear. I have 2 cast iron front wheels and the weight that sits in front of the radiator. I'm thinking of adding more weight by mounting something in the cultivator holes.

I can try that, but won't it make it difficult to keep my mind on farming?

Dad's SC had an LP head to boost horsepower. When plowing in red dirt stop and shift into first. As soon as you throw the clutch grab the steering wheel with both hands and stand on the right or left brake as needed to steer (stay straight or get yelled at). Dad always said it would die before it went over but this 10 year old (at the time) didn't put much stock in that theory!

Hey Myron,

I had a welder make me some hangers to slip into the cultivator bracket holes.

BRACKETS:

The angle is sized for an 100lb. IH suitcase weight:

I can reverse sides on the hangers to make them hang in either direction. (I also had him add a loop to attach a chain to if I ever want to drag something in reverse.)

Good engineering Mike. Would they also make good sleeves to run chain through for trailer tie- down and still protect the paint?

Hi Bruce,

Yes- I suppose I could use them for hauling, too. SCs don't have that hoop underneath like the DCs do.

I don't have a trailer, so it never occurred to me.

Don't compliment my engineering too much... I messed up. I measured the cultivator bracket hole wrong (I didn't have the bottom halves I ordered from Don L. when I cooked this idea up.)

I don't know how I did it, but I used a 2"X2" square tube, and it's about a 1/2" too small. They'll fall right out!

I've found some 1/2 angle iron to put in there to take up the extra space- I just need to find somebody that can cut it to length for me.

When are you coming down this way again?

Thats about the only way you can add weights to the SC. You could also add fluid to the tires also. Depends on what you use the tractor for without the mower on. It would be easier to remove weights than take out fluid.
