I have found the 3 position light switch I was looking for, but it is for cutout relay systems. Is that what I want? I know nothing about wiring. I know the tractor has a voltage regulator if that helps. Thanks

Lucas

The 3-position light switch is used on tractors having the old style 3rd brush generators. The little box on top of those generators is a cut-out relay that only prevents the battery from discharging through the generator when the tractor is not running (many people think it's a regulator but it's not). The switch offers "some" generator output control, the full-in position controls charge to some extent (the third brush in the generator can be adjusted for control also). In the 2nd position, the control is bypassed and the generator gives out a higher charge rate, then in the 3rd position, the same charge rate applies but the lights are turned on. Email me at the above name link, I've eliminated my email address "hide", maybe I could help you out directly. I guess it's possible that somebody has stuck a regular voltage regulator on your tractor even though the generator is still the old 3rd brush style. Go to the articles section in the left margin, there are good articles there on 3rd brush generators.
