I just started my old LA Case tractor,5200487LA, after it was sitting for 8 years. I let it run for 30 minutes then drained the oil. I can not remember what type and grade oil was specified ( I think it was non-detergent ? ) I have the original parts cataloge, No. G210 , but would like to have a maintenance/owners manual too. Also, can anyone advise me on what type fuel I should be using? I beleive we used to use a 'white gas' that was 80 octane ?

It was recommended to me by Case that I use a non-detergent oil even if you have an oil filter cause it's a bypass type.(I have a 49 LA w/oil filter) I run 30 wt in the summer(NAPA is cheaper than Case/IH and sells by the quart--it takes 12 qts +1 if you have an oil filter). Fram sells a filter that will fit(can't remember the #). I run 87 octane unleaded cause that's all I can get. Case/IH or your local farm store will sell a maintenance manual. It's a combo manual of all the 40's & 50's Case tractors. I got an owners manual from Case for about $15. It's handy.
Good luck!,
Steve

According to your ser.# you have a 1948 LA You take the first two numbers and subtract 4. If you don't have a oil filter I would use non-detergent 30 wt. oil. If you have a filter you could us a mild detergent oil also 30 wt. Today in our country you cannot buy a white gasoline(non-leaded). I think the new regalar gas (non-leaded) is probably better than the old leaded gas called bronze gas. I went to LP in my 1948LA when I couldn't get White Gas. This was in 1957. It cost me $400 for new sleeves pistons and rings, the tank, head, and Lp carb and regalator. I did all the work so their was no labor cost. OH! yes also paint and decals was in this price.
