I need a working tractor and 990 and 995's are available in this area for $1500 to $2K. Is this in line with prices in other areas? Do these tractors have any quirks? I've seen several with shifting problems..... .would someone voice their opinions on these tractors?

Interesting, what kind of shifting problems? I've worked on a bunch of Case/DB's and that's one thing I have never seen except on xx12 series and 1290/1390 series.

I paid over $1000 for the last 2 parts tractors I got (both with bad engines). That price is a real bargain if they are sound.

Only a couple of real quirks on Case/DB's. Electrical systems are full of "ghosts and goblins" (Lucas systems, the man who invented darkness) and never seen one yet that the gaskets and seals didn't weap and leak. Doubt you'll find a more economical tractor to run as far as fuel.

Both of these are excellent tractors. What is your intended use? I believe the 990 is approx. 52 HP and the 995 is approx. 58 HP. $1500 to $2000 is a STEAL if the tractors are in good shape I.E. all lights work, lift functions, clutch doesn't slip, PTO engages, disengages correctly. About the only fault with this size Case is they are difficult to get on to because of the location of the gear shift levers. Besides that, they have one of the sweatest sounding motors going. Own a 1977 995 myself. In what area are you located? Hope this helps with your decision. Good luck.
