Hi all, I have a 1965 model 440 tractor and I'm looking for flambeau red to paint the body with, does anyone know were it can be purchased at a reasonable rate? My local NAPA has it for 122.50 per gallon. I live in Maine, if anyone knows where i can find it for less would help. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks Dave.

Napa paint is Acrylic Enamel, this is a very good paint and you pay for what you get and it does a super nice job. Of course I used the Case Power Red because they said they do not sell Flambeau Red any more from around my area. Case charged me $37 a gallon and it looks great to me. Mike

For that price, I would look around too! If you can find a TSC store (Tractor Supply) you can get it much cheaper. They may even be on line? I use their paint on my collection of CASE tractors and I like it.

I'll put my plug in for tractor and implement enamel made by Osage Paint and Varnish Co. here in Kansas City, KS. This little plant has been in business for years, and "modern" methods don't seem to have caught up with them. I have no connection with the company other than my family doing business with them for probably 60 years. Heavily pigmented. Smoothes out nicely when brushed. 913-321-7116, 720 Kansas Ave, 66105.

My $0.02, I'll go back to lurking.

Hi David, Take some time and hunt thru the archives at this forum, and if the posts are still there, you have the question answered. The short answer is use Chevy Engine orange, can't remember the part#, can look today when I go to the farm, and I buy it at Wheels auto parts or whatever they call themselves this week,.. This topic was covered maybe 2 years ago here. My 65 530 engine was painted with that paint in summer '00 and it still looks good. Write me or forum if you are still not sure of this. You can paint the whole tractor with fizz cans for less than what those other places are quoting for a gallon of paint. I would guess that you can buy engine enamel by the quart. Case dealer never convinced me that they had the real color to match the '60's paint. Haven't tried the offerings from TSC for Case yet. I have switched from JD brand green to the TSC as it seems to match color and covers much better than the recent production JD paint, and costs less.

Thank you all for your imput. Just so you know TSC will not ship paint because its just not safe. The nearest TSC is about 6 1/2 hours drive. So it looks like the tractor will be painted in Chevy engine orange. Thanks again

Dave

I think the Flambeau Red color was replaced by Power Red by the time your tractor was made. The two colors are fairly close but not exact. Never could figure out why Case called either one of them "red" since in my opinion they are definitely orange.

Don't know the quality, but Tractor Supply has it. TSC also has hardner. I just checked this afternoon. I think about $21 for a gallon.
