Hello,

Have an old tractor with hoe attachment. It is a 72 CK 'b'. I am not exactly sure what each of the pedals is for. I have three main pedals. One to the left of the steering column, this is for the left axle brake. I then have two on the right. The one closest to the steering column is for the right axle. I am unsure what the outside pedal is for.

I also have a 'plug' type lever on the foot rest for the right leg. I think it is for the lockout for the differential, but when I depress it, it locks and is difficult to get it back up. If I press it down, I have to climb under the tractor to get it back to the up position. Any suggestions to what it is for and if it should be in the up or down position all of the time? Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe

Can I ask how much you paid for your 580B?

I have one and am thinking about selling.

Tim,

Paid $6500 for it. I wouldnt recommend to anyone buying something like this. With the economy the way it is, you can buy a tractor that is in mint condition off lease for $10k from any Case or Cat dealer. It may be 10 years old, but the one you buy would be easier to use and in way better shape than any 30 year old one would be.

Mine is a diesel. I have close to 4K in it. The newer ones have better sight lines for grading and many other technically better features than the older ones.

Hope I dont steal any of your ideas Tim.

I've got a 580b and from the manual and my experience the left pedal is to disengage the tranny, shuttle, etc. then your right side is for brakes, left to left and right to right. Is there a lock behing the pedals to lock them together? The other is the diff. lock. should be up. your spring may be bad, inside the cover. To disengage have you tried reverse to take pressure off the gears. Nuetral usually works for me. Also turning willbind the gears up. I took a sring and jury rigged it to pull the diff lock up as I kept engaginf it when working the foot pedal for accelerator. Hope this helps

On the Case Ag tractors to disengage the diff lock you pressed on either brake, this forced the button up with hydraulic pressure. You should never turn with the diff locked unless you are in some muck or clay or other slippery surface.

Thanks. Ill get out and try these. I know the far left pedal sounds like it engages the left side brake pads. Ill double check.
