39 or older puller??

Around here we have a few "1939 & older" classes for pulling. We joke around that it's basically a John Deere class as usually only a few unstyled JD A's pull in the class, with an occasiional Farmall F-20 or two. I'd sure like to put together a Case that could stomp them all pretty hard in the 39 & older classes, and also compete with the "newer" stuff in the antique pulls for places that don't have a 39 & older class. Any ideas of what models to look for in a case? Looking at about 4000 lb to 5500 lbs for pulling - not too rare that I'd be butchering up a collectable in the process. I wouldn't mind doing a little engine work ... the A's and F-20's are far from stock that I'd be going up against. What should I look for with some potential??

We have a 930 8 speed, a 970, & a 1070 and love them ... wouldn't trade for an IH or JD in a million years, but we're not to familiar with the older Cases beyond the 930 age - but would like to become more familiar with them. I have a hard time figuring out the letter series and the different models of the same model number (seems like at least 4 different configurations for a 930 - why didn't they just use a different number??!!) We now pull with 2 Farmall M's and an H.

Thanks for any input.

I pull a CC that I made from a DC. The engines are built with heavier webbing. Put CC parts on a DC (axles, trans cover, gas tank, hood, radiator) and you will have a strong puller in the 39 class. I have mine down to 3,600# looking to cut a little more. M&W pistons and a Propane head make a world of difference.

You will want a CC Case , an RC won't do ,and a L is too heavy. The CC can be a real fightin unit, for a hand full of dollars & [common] cents. Easy choice.

An RC will out pull most

An RC without the PTO, power lift and fenders will run strong in a 3500lb. STOCK 1939 and older class. An RC will out pull and out work any of it's cometitors of it's era. Similarly a VC in the 2500lb class does well if there are no light oliver super 66's with 38" rubber.(not pre 39 though). A CC or a early DC (first produced in 39) would be the choice for the middle weight classes if you are going to go modified. Joel

I have a 1938 Case "CC" that I have had nice success with pulling. Mind you, tractor pulling is not necessarily my #1 purpose for my collection, but I do enjoy pulling in stock classes. A "CC" is an unstyled version of a "DC", and I have the wheels set out as far as they will go. Engine parts are interchangable with a "DC", and with the right amount of wrench bending, you can have a nice "Deere Hunter"
