I have a friend in England that has a DEX Case. He never had an electic starter on his. I guess I'm curious if yours in Austral1a has starters on them. I shipped a starter to England for him and the flywheel did have the ring gear on it. His dad went to hand crank it one day and kicked back and broke is arm so what he paid for the starter was cheap.

Most of the DEX tractors I have seen in Australia have starters.

Some of the early Ds &LAs particularly those shipped during WWII did not have starters, but had ring gear.

All later model Ds and LAs were shipped with starters. Most people who had earlier Ds and LAs (and late Cs and Ls set up for starters) installed them in the early 1950s. Agriculture was fairly prosperous back then and farmers could afford to add extras not previously fitted.

They are the same as the D in North America. The EX stands for export.

The D was the replacement for the C from 1939 and was produced until 1953?

A lot came to Australia, but they were not as common as the C here because there was not much price difference with the LA which was larger and more hp. (Why was the LA not called the LAEX when it was exported?)

the majority of the export models ive seen have esthetic differences, like the wheels for instance. the hub castings or wheel assemblies are unique to foreign countries and are different from north american models. not certain why this is, maybe the availability of certain tire sizes made it a problem overseas at the time of prodution so exported tractors were fitted with wheels and tires that were more commonly found on european built tractors.

i may be wrong but it sounds good doesnt it?
