I parked my 1954 S last week, and everything was fine, until I tried to Start it this week.

I slipped it out of gear, by grabbing the shifter and put it in neutral so I could start it,
It started fine but when I pushed the clutch in, I couldn't put it in gear they would just grind!!

I can start the tractor in gear, and it goes into every gear when it is not running.

I have tried to adjust the linkage, but that doesn't work.

The clutch simply won't disingauge!!!

I need this tractor around my cottage, please tell me this is a simple FIX,

I could use some help here

Thanks
John

Thanks guys, and I hope it is just stuck and nothing is broken, I will try to start it in forth gear and rev the motor and all that stuff, and get it loose. I really hope I don't have to split the tractor My cottage is Crystal Lake just south of Kinmount,. It is a foot clutch and there are some triangle inspection covers on each side of the tractor, could these covers be any help to me. and why does the clutch get stuck?? is there anything I can do to prevent this?? Thanks so much for the response in this CASE John

Try making the clutch slip. Get it started and idling in 4th. gear try slipping the clutch by holding the brakes. I have heard of people wedging the foot clutch pedal down with a block of wood, when not in use, to keep the clutch from sticking. Us hand clutch guys just park it with the hand clutch disengaged.

your clutch may be frozen. dont know how easy it is to access your clutch for maintenance, but, you may need to split your tractor if its stuck really bad. plan a weekend w/ a 2-4 of CANADIAN and a toolbox. youve got a real project on your hands.

what part of Canada you in? im just north of toronto. might be able to help if your close by.

good luck!

mike

I have a new to me SC with hand clutch. It has a brake on lever for the belt pulley. If I stop the belt pulley, I can shift pretty good. If I let it keep rolling, it grinds some. I also can start the shift stoped and start to let out clutch and it falls in as it starts to turn gears. Not sure if any help, but that's my story! AND, if idle is too high, not as easy to shift either when not moving.

I assume this is a foot clutch. If so that is not uncommon. Your clutch is stuck or the splines on the shaft are gummy and not letting the pressure plate move. Cures vary. One of mine comes loose when you rev it up and the other you have to slip the clutch to break it loose.
