I have a 830 Gas tractor and there seems to be a lot of blow-by, white smoke, coming out the tube that is connected to the top of both of the valve covers. The smoke even comes out of the exhaust a little. It got worse after running for awhile. I ran a compression test last year and from my memmory everything seemed ok. Just curious as to what it could be before gathering my wrenches.

Before I would tear it down, I would use the appropriate amount of "Rislone", and run it for the rest of the summer..... it might just loosten up some rings.... Also, could be just a lot of moisture in the engine...have you run it long and hard enough to get it WELL dried out.?? My JD 60 seems to "breath Hard", until it gets hot, and dried out....then the vapor is a lot less....

Our neighbor has a 1070 that had pure white smoke and was missing. All the valve seats were bad. Machine shop replaced the seats, ground the valves, didn't replace rings or sleeves, tractor ran like new.

I have a 730 gas was doing the same thing ended up I had to rebuild the motor and a little head work. I did all the work myself except for machine and hot tank. With parts and machine work cost me $1500.

It could probably use a set of rings, but to cure the problem you would probably have to spend the "big bucks" and replace the sleeves. I would first check the valves to make sure they are adjusted correctly and seated properly. It seems to me that compression blowing by the valves would also show the same symptoms that you described.
