I removed the old oil filter that came with the tractor and there was not a tube that runs up into the filter. I purchased a new Baldwin filter and it didn't come with this tube. Do I need to worry about this or do I need to find a tube? If I need to find one any suggestions or alternatives. Thanks.

Mike has it right. One more thing, Do not put the tube all the way to the bottom in the filter base, leave it up 1/8" or so. If you put it all the way down, the oil passage is cut off and the filter will never get any oil. You can make the tube as Mike describes fron a piece of steel brake line. I think it's 1/4". Good Luck,
Bruce

the tube is important. unfortunately replacing it is difficult. it only comes from the dealer as one piece w/ the filter housing and others have simply shoved a copper tube into the base, crimped and rounded the other end and drilled a tiny hole perpendicular through the tube so the oil can pass through. i know what your thinking. that last part sounds like an ideal fix. and it probably is. i just dont know length, diameter or size of anything.

the purpose of the tube is to direct oil flow through the filter media and in turn, increase oil pressure. without the tube the oil simply burbles at the inlet of the housing, avoids the filter, and then trickles into the outlet.

you may want to check if your getting oil to the top of the motor too. that little tube causes enuff restiction to help the oil up there.

good luck!

Thanks for the help. I've made the tube with stainless 1/4" and tried it with a mason jar in place of the filter. Worked great.
