I just got my 31 CC home and noticed it has a diffrent oil pan than any others i have seen. It looks like it is set up for a wide front. It also has 2 drain plugs. My question is are all early ones like this. If you havent seen one look at Peter Letourneau's book on page 86 top pic thats what mine looks like. Then look at the pic on page 90 thats the one i have seen the most. Thanks for any thoughts Thad

My book lists that oil pan through 1932. It was then changed to the newer style. It also shows the later style as a replacement for the double hump if there was a need to replace it. From what I see it's just the early design and they decided to change it in 32. If I were to guess I would say it had something to do with the front casting change that also took place 2 times around the same time.

i see what you mean. im having trouble identifying the "notch" in the middle of the oil pan or if thats something that looks like one. its hard to tell from the b&w photo.

if it is indeed a notch then that answers the question of two drain plugs. theres two low spots in the oil pan divided by a short wall and possibly a baffle on the inside.

why dont you take off an inspection cover and check? im just as curious as you.

Mike this tractor has set in a barn for years owners couldnt remember 10 or 12 years. So the first thing i did was drain the oil and i always clean out the bottom of the pan this one had sludge covering the pump sump. Yes that is a slot it has a removable pin in it. I was wondering if it was for a wide front to pivot on or for the cultivator. It has the early cultivator brackets on it. The best thing was i put a new fuel bowl on it and gas in it we pulled it 20ft and it started. Runs rough but i guess it is a bit stiff. Thad
