The home town where I grew up has an annual Museum Day each year, Even though I no longer live there, I enjoy taking the hour drive down for the event. The feature of the day is the parade of antique farm machinery... Each year the local volunteers have a lineup of tractors ready to roll, at parade time if you have the basic skills and inkling to take one for a spin, you head over to the lineup and pick out a ride of choice.... I was down 2 years ago and got to take a ride on a W6 International/Farmall. This year I was assigned a VA Case for my first ride. (Followed that lap around the grounds with a spin on a 1927 unstyled JD D) Usually they have the tractors running so you don't have to deal with the quirks on how to start each tractor.. The VA was sitting there shut off. As I waited, I noticed some of the other tractors getting lined up to roll, so figured, I'll give this a whirl. Flipped on what looked like ignition switch, made sure I was in neutral, and punched the starter... She fired up in about 3 cranks, and settled down into a smooth idle. WOW... Obviously someone has spent some time working on this tractor, ran smoother than the 2N Ford I use on my acreage. Nice view from the raised platform, and a real nice unit to take for a drive. I remember growing up having the occasion to drive our neighbours D case with the hand clutch. Wish I coulda had my digital camera with me to take some pics, cause in addition to the VA, there were several other Case units on parade. D, LA, SC? I think. Best part of the day is seeing the look in the seniors who remember either the owner who donated the tractor to the museum, or actually driving a similar model when they were younger ... * For the record, our farm was very GREEN when I grew up on it in the 70's, so my experiences with other colours came through working for neighbours, or recently, purchasing a tractor for my own little 17 acre piece of land.
