I drained the "95% water" hydraulic fluid from my tractor. I have found a new filter, but would like to know if anyone has a good solution for flushing the system before putting in the good fluid and new expensive filter? Thanks in advance.

umm... unfortunately, short of tearing the transmission/torque tube appart and cleaning it by hand there is no real solution to cleaning the thing out.

any kind of solvent you may want to use will not have any lubricating qualities and will dammage the seals, bearings, and hydraulic system and since none are water soluable, may not do the job well enuff.

id be more concerned w/ how the water got into your hydraulic system in the first place. i can understand the transmission filling w/ water if you have a broken shifter boot. check your transmission for water as well. if theres water in the transmission, then the most likely culprit is the input shaft seal between the torque tube and the transmission. this will need to be replaced.

if this is the case book a weekend off to split your tractor. once its appart you can clean away.

may the force be w/ you

mike

The water entered the tube when the tractor was pressure washed. I know dumb move. I spoke with an old navy fellow who said they used rubbing alcohol, it evaporates and cleans. Guess I'll be braking it in half. Seems every time you fix one thing five more things sneak up on you with these old tractors.
