HD Does Not Stand for High Detergent

My neighbor says not to use high detergent oil in these old tractors and I keep telling him that "HD" stands for "heavy duty". My dad always thought it stood for high detergent as well. I have a letter from Texaco stating that the Havoline 30W HD has no more detergent in it than the multigrade oils and that HD means "heavy duty".

I too was interested so I emailed CITGo, this was there reply
Thank you for your interest in Citgo's motor oils. I understand you want to
know what HD means in the engine oil market. Typically HD means Heavy Duty.
When you mention HD the first thing anyone in the business I am familiar
with thinks of Heavy Duty. Where the confusion arises is that Heavy Duty
engine oils are made for diesel trucks. The engines in diesel trucks are
much dirtier than passenger car engines and therefore, the Heavy Duty Engine
Oils are high detergent oils to keep the engines clean they also contain
much higher dispersant levels to keep the soot generated in a diesel engine
in suspension. In summary the Heavy Duty Engine Oils are much more highly
formulated than a passenger car motor oils to keep the engine clean from the
increased combustion products generated by the diesel engine.
