One of the fellers over on the "Tales" board thinks that the SC is a fragile looking tractor, what with the way it protrudes and the hole in the cast. I have never heard of one breaking, have you?

Tractors do get dropped off of trucks once in a while you know. I would think it would take that to break a LA.

If you do manage to hit something hard enough to break the front end off your going to bust some ribs hitting the steering wheel.

In our area of Wisconsin there was once a lot of lead mining. Every now and then in a wet year a few sink hole will show up. Unfortunately a few get found with the front end of tractors. Dad put the front of a SC and a DC in one of these holes while plowing and never broke either of the front ends.

There was an LA on ebay a year or so ago that had the front axle broken off. Some people can break anything, can't imagine how he did that to the LA, a lot of iron holding the axle on. He didn't break the pin, broke the casting. Scary.

I have an SC narrow front with a broken housing that thas been repaired. I don't know how the previous owner managed to snap it off. I figure the tractor may have gotten away from him and ran over a hill somewhere. We have a lot of hills, holes, and rocks here in WV. They must be pretty strong to support the loaders that I've seen on them. The cast iron bracket on my wide front tractor was also broken back under the belly where the support attaches.

Never had problems with the 53 SC I had, but, if a guy thinks their fragile and hes got one of the old ones let him pick up a front wheel. Its funny. On my CC, The front rims are detachable from the wheels but the backs arent. On the 40ss models, the fronts arent detachable but the rear ones were

Doesn't look weak to me!

Don't forget that there's a 150lb drop end weight INSIDE that front end, too.

I have never heard of of a SC breakin. Once I broke off the bolts on the frt end on a DC in the field. I got away from the imp. , chained he loose narrow frt to the tractor, and drove it home backwards, put differnt [used] bolts in it , and went back to work. It gives a guy a appreciation of how heavy the goseneck is. Don L.
