I purchased a book on Case tractors and it showed how to deterine the year of the Tractor. It said to take the first 2 numbers of the serial number and place them side by side and then subtract the first number from this new number and you get the year of manufacture. The problem is my serial number is: 5309377 SOEX. When I use this method I get 1948 as the year of manufacture and according to my book there were no SOEX's manufactured in 1948. There was 1 in 1947 and 40 in 1949. Maybe Case used the "New Math" when they created this serial number. Anyone know the answer to this puzzle. Thanks for any help.

Bill did you just buy this tractor? Maybe at an auction near South Boardman? If so I know a bit about this tractor. I own it's brother #5309379SOEX.

Your tractor is a 49, take the first 2 digits minus 4 (53-4= 1949)

nope. you used the wrong formula.

you take the first two numbers (53) and subtract by 4 that will give you 49.

your tractor was built in 1949.
