I only got one before I ran out of battery. I think it's time for a new battery.

Mike, I've been meaning to ask you how that burning process worked for you? Did you have any luck breaking that motor loose by lighting it on fire like that? Just curious...

Hey Mark,

I'm afraid I don't know how well the cylinder burning worked yet- I've been working too much overtime.

Those two tractors are sitting out at my boss' farm, so they aren't where I can see them on a regular basis.

I haven't been out there in about two months- but the good news is that they've been soaking in diesel all that time.

Maybe next weekend I can go out there for one more cylinder burn and then start pounding on the pistons.

I have to say that the hot diesel sure did clean everything up nicely. I brushed the soot off the head studs and tops of the pistons with a small brass brush before I put the new diesel in to soak... everything was nice and relatively shiny.

Howdy, I am assuming all this is to free a stuck engine which is what I am trying for the first time on a VAC. I have diesel poured down the cylinders with the head still on. Two of the cylinders look to be draining down okay but the other two do not seem to be moving much. What might be the next step and what is the cylinder burning for? One last question... any ideas on best place for gaskets and other rebuild items? Went to a continental shop here locally and they want almost $1,000 for just the rebuild kits. Thanks much for the help... you guys are great!

Are those pits on the #4 piston? If so, I'd check the head carefully-could be cracked & getting water into that cylinder. IMHO, those old girls will pit pistons if there is any water getting in there when they are running. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

No, jal, that is the scum on the top of the liquid, not the top of the piston.

So- did the oil soak past the rings on cylinder #2? It's the only one that's not full up.

Yes, the oil soaked past the rings on one and two. Maybe you can't tell on #1 because it is almost at the top of its travel.
Sky told me last night that he disconnected the rod on #1 and moved it. Didn't take it out because of the position of the crank.
