DC-3 Throttle / Governor settings ???

Seems like over a period of time, I do not achieve the same RPM that I used to for a given throttle position. I am pretty sure you don;t adjust this in the carburetor but am not positive. Additionally, when bushhogging through tall grass, the engine rpm seems to drop considerably (bog down) before the governor will call for more power - once it calls, it seems ok (although not quite enough rpm in my opinion)

What can I do to correct this? should I adjust linkage? Should I adjust the carb? Should I trash it and go buy a Mahindra? heheheh

Joking on the last question :)

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris: I use my DC3 for mowing (6ft finish mower and I borrow a 4ft brush hog). I checked my PTO using a hand held tach and I am getting slightly over 540 rpm at full throttle. Manual says PTO speed of 540 comes at engine speed of 1200rpm. The manual gives a conversion for the belt puuley speed to get engine speed (multiply belt pulley speed by 1.47 and that is engine speed)

To set engine speed the adjustment is made on the rod behind the oil filter Shortening increases speed. no-load max is 1390 and under full load max is 1200.

Hesitation under load maybe from too lean a carb setting. I had to richen mine a little as she hesitated in really heavy wet grass.
Also check to make sure teh governor arm isn't bumping in to the generator bracket (full throttle) or the generator belt (idle).
